The new Apostolic Nuncio to the Court of St James, HE Archbishop Antonio Mennini (seen here with Archbishop Vincent Nichols), presented his diplomatic papers to HM Queen Elizabeth this morning (see Diocese of Westminster, here). The Archbishop served as the first ever Apostolic Nuncio to Russia (see here) before his appointment to the UK.
Archbishop Mennini presented his diplomatic credentials as Apostolic Nuncio to the Court of St James during an audience with the Queen. He also presented Her Majesty with Archbishop Faustino Sainz Muñoz's official letter of resignation. Archbishop Muñoz retired due to ill health as the Nuncio to the Court of St James on 5 December 2010. He had spent many years working for the Vatican's Diplomatic Service.
Antonio Mennini was greeted by Queen Elizabeth II after being driven in a horse-drawn carriage from Archbishop's House to Buckingham Palace. According to the Diocese of Westminster's press release, "an altar server from Westminster Cathedral was the coachman for the Nuncio’s carriage." It is believed that one of the regular servers at the Cathedral is a coachman for Her Majesty.
Please keep the new Apostolic Nuncio in your prayers.

Well he's got a big job in front of him. I do hope that he starts to sort out things like magic circles PDQ.
This is a good day. Especially for Catholics like myself over here in Wales. We have been without an Archbishop for far too long.
We are in dire need of a good strong Bishop in Wrexham Diocese, a devout traditional man to inspire the faithful and put the Diocese back on track.
I cannot believe that R Wyn Jones is serious. The Bishop of Wrexham is a devout and prayerful man, an inspiration to his people and a powerful ambassador for the Catholc Church in the difficult territory of Wales. In particlar, he is a Welsh speaker who has been able to reach out in a meaningful way to the other churches. For the first time in centuries, and thanks to the Bishop, the Church is now accepted as a natural part of the religious Welsh language life of the area. He is much loved and will be sorely missed by many, many people.
Yes anonymous, if he spent less time reaching out to other churches in matters ecumenical, and concentrated his time an energy on the needs of 'his people' as he like to call us. Then, we could perhaps have considered him to be a good ambassador.
No one will ever forget the dreadful Blog run by one of his own priests. A miserable malcontent of a fellow. It tore into the characters of diocesan clergy and laity alike.
The damage was phenomenal. His Lordship sat on his hands and did nothing. Worse, he did not even make his priest apologise!
The last thing we want is for anyone in authourity to pay the slightest attention to the rantings and ravings of Fr Ian Dalgleish on his blog. That would only encourage him and make him feel even more important than he already thinks he is. Bishop Regan has been very wise in letting Fr Dalgleish have enough rope to hang himself, publicly, as an idiot, as comments on other parts of this website show.
@ R. Wyn Jones on Fr. Ian Dalgleish "A miserable malcontent of a fellow. It tore into the characters of diocesan clergy and laity alike.

Seem he has finally done something and got rid of him to the Diocese of Paisley in Scotland. Shifted the problem elsewhere I guess.
