Vatican Radio (here) reports today that Pope Benedict XVI will appear on an Italian State TV programme on Good Friday. This will be the first time that any pope has been interviewed for a television programme.
Called A Sua Imagine (In His Image), the programme plans to broadcast the Holy Father’s answers to three questions about Jesus. These questions will have been chosen from thousands that are expected to be submitted by ordinary viewers and Catholic faithful.
A Sua Imagine will be pre-recorded, with the Pope’s contributions being filmed by the Vatican Television Centre.
Yet again, Pope Benedict XVI is demonstrating that he is a “pope of surprises”! I, for one, cannot think of a more innovate pontiff. He is a man both rooted in tradition, yet open to modern means of communication - "like to a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old" (Mt. 13:52).
In his desire for the unity of the Church and the proclamation of the Gospel, Pope Benedict is not afraid of “casting his net into the deep”.
