Some photos from Saturday's LMS-sponsored High Mass for the Election of a Pope at Westminster Cathedral

The Preparatory Prayers at the Foot of the Altar
Yesterday, Mgr Gordon Read, National Chaplain to the Latin Mass Society of England and Wales, celebrated a votive High Mass for the Election of a Pope (pro eligendo Summo Pontifice) in Westminster Cathedral. Mgr Read was assisted by Fr Simon Leworthy (Deacon) and (I think) Fr Patrick Hayward (Sub-Deacon). The MC was Mr Gordon Dimon, who is Senior MC to the LMS. Music was provided by the Lay Clerks of Westminster Cathedral, who were directed by Mr Peter Stevens, Cathedral Assistant Master of Music -- who was also the organist.

The LMS had planned to offer a High Mass in Westminster Cathedral on 2 March as part of their scheduled Lenten Day of Recollection. In light of the Papal resignation, though, it was decided to offer the Mass as a Votive for the Election of a Pope.

To the left and below are some photos from the Mass, which were taken for inclusion in Westminster Cathedral's magazine. The person taking photos was only available from the beginning of the Mass until the singing of the Gospel, so, sadly, there are no images from that part of the Mass called the 'Mass of the Faithful'.

In His infinite mercy and kindness, may God grant His Church a holy, courageous, and wise Pope.
